Residents asked to take precautions to prevent wildfires
The forecast for this weekend calls for high temperatures and high winds, and while we hope that residents will enjoy the nice weather, we also urge people to take precautions to prevent wildfires.
If you are out riding a quad this weekend, make sure you stop often to brush the vehicle off and prevent grass and dirt buildup. If this material gets hot enough, it may start a fire on the ground when it falls off. If possible, retrace your route to ensure nothing is burning where you previously rode.
If you are having a campfire, make sure you extinguish it fully. Pour water on it, stir the ashes and embers, and then pour more water on it. Repeat until the ashes are not giving off any more heat. A campfire that is not put out properly may continue to smoulder for hours or even days, and it can easily turn into a wildfire in the right conditions.
If conditions worsen in the near future, existing fire permits may be suspended or cancelled. Please call (780) 623-6767 for up-to-date information. We wish everyone a safe and enjoyable weekend.
