Sidewalk clearing after snowfalls
With this weekend’s snowfall, winter is officially in swing. The County’s Community Peace Officers would like to remind everyone that you must remove snow and ice from your sidewalks (whether they border residential or commercial property) within 72 hours of a snowfall. Be sure to dispose of snow properly after shovelling, piling it in a safe spot on your own property. Do not push snow onto the road or your neighbours’ walkways.
If you need a little extra help maintaining your sidewalks, the County offers the free Seniors’ Sidewalk Clearing program. As part of the program, community groups provide snow clearing services to seniors in the hamlets after each snow event. Seniors can participate by calling 780-623-6811.
Note that there are fines associated with failing to remove snow, ice or debris from sidewalks that border your property. There are also penalties for placing snow, ice or debris on County or private property, roads, and other sidewalks. You can learn more by reading our Community Standards Bylaw here.
