Ice road update: not yet open, staff monitoring conditions
Lac La Biche County staff are monitoring ice thickness to determine the best time to open the ice road across Lac La Biche Lake from Maccagno Point to Poplar Point.
Right now, the average thickness across the road route is 12 to 13 inches of good quality ice. However, as per the Government of Alberta’s Best Practice for Building and Working Safely on Ice Covers in Alberta, we require 19 inches of ice before placing any snow clearing equipment on the lake surface.
County staff will continue to test ice thickness, and will advise everyone when the ice road opens for the season. In the meantime, please exercise caution on and around ice.
