Four groups unite to support regional economic development
4Boards transforming into Tourism and Economic Development Advisory Committee
What started as an opportunity to brainstorm and work together has turned into a true partnership to drive community growth. Lac La Biche County Council, Lac La Biche & District Chamber of Commerce, Region One Aboriginal Business Association and Community Futures Lac La Biche – who began meeting as “4Boards” in 2018 – are unified in the direction moving forward.
4Boards will be repurposed to support Lac La Biche County’s strategic goals in the form of an Economic and Tourism Development Advisory Committee. While not formalized yet, the committee is expected to include representatives from each of the four groups as well as other regional partners. The committee structure will be outlined in terms of reference, to be approved by County Council.
Up to this point, the role of 4Boards has been to identify issues and barriers to growth, areas of excellence and improvement, and opportunities to collaborate. The Economic and Tourism Development Advisory Committee will continue this work, making official recommendations for Council as a whole to consider.
One of the committee’s first exercises will be to review the County’s existing Economic Development Strategy and update it for use as a guide to future decision-making.
“The past several years have tested our community’s character and brought people closer together. This is evident in the work of 4Boards. Enriching our community and our region is a goal that we all share, and each of these groups brings something different to the table. By continuing to work together, we can accomplish a great deal more than any one organization could do alone.”
Mayor Omer Moghrabi, Lac La Biche County
“Being on the 4Boards committee has been an exciting experience. Our boards shared ideas, issues, struggles and hopes for the future of Lac La Biche County. We were able to share our thoughts, backgrounds and values and contributed in a very satisfying way. I’m proud of the direction.”
Lina Yadlowsky, President, Lac La Biche & District Chamber of Commerce
“Community Futures is very pleased with the collaborative work and alignments that have developed from the four boards working together. With the general agreement that this advisory committee was needed, we as a group believed that doing it right was of great importance. I’m optimistic about the future of this committee. It’s a piece that has been missing for many years. With the right people on the committee, and the direction of the development professionals at the County, the future holds great promise.”
Dave Phillips, Board Member, Community Futures Lac La Biche
“The only way for our struggling community to succeed in this economic downturn is to unite and work together to increase economic development in our community. 4Boards has come up with a vehicle to achieve progress in growing our economy.”
Shawn McDonald, President, Region One Aboriginal Business Association
