Deliberations on 2020 Proposed Budget begin today
Lac La Biche County Council are holding their first meeting today on the 2020 Proposed Budget. Before getting into details, they discussed some of the uncertainty and challenges facing the municipality, including a potential increase in policing costs, changes to assessment, reduced grants, achieving a 5:1 mill rate ratio, and more.
Administration proposed a $5 million stabilization operating reserve, which is new for 2020. Those funds would be used to offset possible increased operating costs—any extra could go into regular reserves or capital projects.
Other budget deliberation meetings are scheduled for October 31, November 1, 7, 19, 21, and December 5, 2019. They all begin at 10 am, and are held on the second floor of McArthur Place in the Hamlet of Lac La Biche. Meetings are open to the public, except for portions held in closed session. And, keep an eye out for more information on two upcoming public open houses on the 2020 Proposed Budget, scheduled for the evenings of November 20 in Plamondon and November 22 in Lac La Biche.
