Fire season: Fire restriction now in effect (updated May 26, 2020)

Post Date:04/15/2020 8:52 AM

Current fire restriction level: FIRE RESTRICTION

The fire ban has been replaced with a fire restriction in Lac La Biche County outside the Forest Protection Area. Until further notice, the following are now permissible:
  • Safe wood campfires on public or private land
  • Backyard fire pits
  • Charcoal briquette barbecues
  • Burn barrels that have been issued fire permits
  • Recreational off-highway vehicle use

Fire permits will not be issued for non-essential heavy fuels burning (windrows, etc.). Some allowances may be made for essential agriculture and industrial burning but will need to be approved by a Lac La Biche County fire guardian.

Please keep an eye out for updates, as fluctuating temperatures and possible precipitation may change fire hazard conditions at short notice.

For more information, contact our complaint line at 780-623-6767.

Permitting: Lac La Biche County and Alberta's Forest Protection Area

The County and the provincial government handle fire permitting and wildfire management in different areas. This is because most of our County falls within Alberta's Forest Protection Area. Click here to see a map of the County, showing who is responsible for which areas. If your property is in an area handled by the provincial authorities, you will need to contact Alberta Agriculture & Forestry to get a fire permit. Call (780) 623-5388 to contact the local branch.
