Council declares state of agricultural disaster in Lac La Biche County at June 12, 2020 Special Council Meeting
Due to excessive precipitation, Lac La Biche County declared a state of agricultural disaster in the municipality at a Special Council Meeting held on June 12, 2020. Lac La Biche County joins Athabasca County, Lamont County, and Thorhild County in taking this action.
Between June 1 and 10, 2020, the County received 127 mm of rainfall, which is approximately 450 per cent higher than the long-term average. This has led to flooding, road washouts, and load limits being imposed on some roads. In addition, normal farming activities, such as seeding and herbicide applications, have been interrupted because of excessively wet ground conditions.
County Administration is notifying higher levels of government and stakeholder organizations to inform them of the situation.
If producers or other residents have questions, they should contact the County's Environmental Services department by calling (780) 623-6739 or emailing email@example.com.
