Information for residents about the Province's Disaster Recovery Program
The Province of Alberta offers a program which provides financial compensation to municipal governments and their residents for damage caused from extraordinary disaster events. This program is called the Disaster Recovery Program (DRP). To receive funding, municipal governments must apply to the program.
In the spring of 2020, Lac La Biche County experienced an extraordinary flooding event. We applied for DRP funding and were approved.
IF YOU EXPERIENCED DAMAGE OR LOSSES BECAUSE OF THE FLOODING EVENT, YOU MAY BE ELIGIBLE FOR DRP FUNDING.
Below are some commonly asked questions about DRP funding and the application process.
Who is eligible to apply?
Generally, County residents affected by the 2021 flooding event are eligible to apply. Eligible residents include homeowners and residential tenants, non-profits, small business owners and landlords, and owners of agricultural operations. These individuals may apply for eligible expenses for their properties within Lac La Biche County.
Other municipalities or local authorities may have had DRP funding approved as well. Contact your appropriate local authority to determine whether DRP funding has been approved for other areas.
When is the deadline to apply for funding?
All DRP applications for Lac La Biche County must be submitted to the province by December 23, 2020.
Who do I apply to?
The DRP program is administered and managed by the provincial government, not the County. All applications should be submitted to the provincial government.
To apply, go to www.alberta.ca/DRP. This website is a landing page for DRP funding. It contains all the information necessary to complete the application.
What if I need help completing my application?
The County is offering some assistance for individuals who are unable to complete the online application process because of limited computer literacy or internet accessibility. However, applicants will still be responsible for developing the content of their applications.
Please contact Lac La Biche County’s FCSS department at 780-623-6819 to find out how the County can assist with your DRP application submission.
What costs are eligible?
Generally, only damage to that was caused as a result of the overland flooding event that occurred between June 3, 2020 and June 8, 2020 is eligible.
Hail, sewer backup and insurance deductibles do not qualify under the program, as insurance coverage is considered reasonably and readily available for these issues.
Only uninsurable losses are eligible. Individuals who have not chosen to insure their property or belongings, or those who do not have adequate insurance, will not be eligible to receive funding through the program.
The province has extensive guidelines and requirements as to the eligibility of various expenses. There may certain limitations, restrictions, and conditions regarding what types of damage may be covered, and to what extent repair or recovery costs may be supported. Please consult the resources on the provincial website.
Who can I contact for additional information?
You can contact the Alberta Emergency Management Agency (AEMA), which is the agency responsible for administering the program.
