Lac La Biche County and New Provincial COVID-19 Regulations (Updated April 7, 2021)

Lac La Biche County Recreation Facilities and COVID-19

The Province’s announcement on April 6, 2021 moves us back to phase one of the re-launch strategy, and impacts services and individual use of the County’s recreation facilities. All are closed to the general public until further notice. Please note that all details are subject to change based on Alberta Health Services' restrictions and recommendations.

Facility Hours 

The Bold Center & Portage Pool are currently closed to the general public.  Please call 780-623-6328 (Bold Center) or 780-623-6777 (Portage Pool) for inquiries or to speak to a Customer Service Representative.  

What is available to me and my family?

Personal Fitness Training

  • Bold Center will continue accepting personal one-on-one training sessions with clients. Please call 780-623-3829 for available times and fees. 
  • New clients require a consultation with the Personal Trainer first, as well as completion of the Get Active Questionnaire and Informed Consent forms.
  • Clients can visit 10-15 minutes prior to the scheduled session for proper warm up (use the buzzer, or the Personal Trainer will meet you at the front door). Fitness changerooms, steam rooms, etc. remain closed at this time.

Swimming Lessons

  • Private/family cohort lessons are available. The current session of lessons ends next week (the week of April 12, 2021), and next session starts at the end of April. Our spring session availability is as follows: Monday and Wednesday (twice per week), Tuesday and Thursday (once per week), between 3 and 6:30 pm for private/household lesson slots.
    • The parent/guardian must be in the water to support participants (preschool levels and levels 1-3), or one parent/guardian accompaniment per family on benches.
    • Instructors remain on deck, and will wear face shields if absolutely needed in the water.
    • No hot tub or steam room use.
  • The swim club may continue to train, but this may be subject to change based on Swim Alberta’s recommendations.
  • Leadership courses will continue (booked on weekends).

Youth Sport Groups

  • Youth sport groups (under 18 years) can have up to 10 individuals (including coaches, trainers and participants) in a booked facility. The same measures and rules apply. *Youth are not required to wear masks while participating in sport, but do need to wear masks in common areas, dressing rooms, etc. All coaches/trainers are required to wear masks at all times.
  •  Select youth programs and certification programs instructed by certified instructors may continue to be offered in person for spring session 

Additional services (coming soon):

  • Lac La Biche County will be expanding equipment loan services for people to utilize outdoor facilities once portions of the Bold Center sports field project become available. More information to follow. 

Youth Sport Group Rentals at the Bold Center

  • Minimum one-hour time slots can be booked through the Bookings & Events Coordinator. Please email bookings@laclabichecounty.com or call 780-404-5580. Full payment is required at the time of booking. 
  • Renters can come in 15 minutes before rental time, at no charge, to complete our contact tracing requirement at the front desk.

Available Rental Times:

  • Monday to Thursday: 4:30-8:30 pm
  • Saturday and Sunday: closed (existing weekend clinic bookings will be honoured April 16, 17 & 18)

Rental access to Bold Center:

  • Any daytime appointments will be met at main entrance.  
  • Evening bookings (after 4 pm) can enter through main entrance (doors will be open).
  • Renters will check in with the available Customer Service Representative.
  • Only those with bookings will be allowed in as per booking list provided by Bookings & Events Coordinator. 

Parent/Guardian Accompaniment:

  • One parent/guardian of same household, age 18 or over, can be present in the same facility (seated in team bench) only for one-on-one training (for child safety requirements as per sport association rules).
  • NOTE: siblings are not allowed to be in attendance.
  • The child is not required to come fully dressed for their activity, but this is recommended.
  • For youth group training, no spectators will be allowed to wait in the facility, but the outdoor patio area is available. 

Ice and Fieldhouse Fees:

Rental rates will be charged at the Youth Organization rate as per Bylaw 20-002 (pages 17, 18 & 19).

Food Court / Services:

  • Bold Center food vendors will close at 5 pm on weeknights. Rustic Bean is open 11 am - 3 pm on Saturdays. All remain take-out only with the outdoor patio area available at front of the building.
  • The Top Shelf Grill (based in the Plamondon Arena) is available for take-out orders by texting/calling 780-520-4853.

The following changes apply to County facilities, programming and services. Please also ensure that you familiarize yourself with the Government of Alberta's enhanced public health measures, and be sure to follow all of those that apply to you and your family.

 Bill Payment Options 

McArthur Place

  • McArthur Place is closed to the public, and will be accessible by appointment only. Please call 780-623-1747 for assistance.
  • If you plan to meet with a County staff member, it is preferred to contact them by phone, email, or other virtual methods. Please consult our online staff directory, or call 780-623-1747 for assistance.

County Centre

  • County Centre remains closed to the public, and will be accessible by appointment only. Please call 780-623-1747 for assistance.

Stuart MacPherson Public Library

Family & Community Support Services (FCSS) Programs

  • All in-person programming has been cancelled. 
  • Virtual options have been set up in some cases to replace in-person programs. Please check the Lac La Biche County Family & Community Support Services Facebook page, or call 780-520-8576 for more information.
  • The FCSS toy lending and equipment library continues to be made available to County residents by appointment. Please contact FCSS Young Families at 780-623-6365.

Community Access Bus Services

  • Paratransit Services will be available for medical appointments and prescription deliveries only.
  • Community Access Bus Stops will be closed until further notice.

Reuse Centres at County Landfills and Transfer Stations

  • Reuse centres at County landfills and transfer stations were closed as of Monday, December 7, 2020.
  • Please note that landfills and transfer stations remain operational, and will be open for regular hours.

Outdoor Trails, Parks, Playgrounds, and Ice Rinks

  • Outdoor trails, parks, and playgrounds remain available to the public, but users must follow all Alberta Health Services' guidelines and restrictions.
  • Outdoor ice rinks will be open when the ice is ready (weather-dependent). Alberta Health Services’ regulations will apply at each rink, and signage will be posted.
