Winter Operations Update Feb. 5, 2021

Post Date:02/03/2021 8:13 AM

Important update February 5, 2021:

Due to the recent extreme cold warning forecast issued by Environment Canada, and in order to reduce breakdowns to equipment, snow crews will be finishing up snow removal of the south side of Lac La Biche today and will not complete the north side until temperatures warm up to daytime temperatures of -25C or higher.

Based on the long-range forecast, we are looking at resuming snow removal in the north side by Tuesday next week. However we will resume snow removal operations sooner if daytime temperatures rise to-25C or higher.

During this period we will continue to plow and sand roads to ensure safe winter travel is maintained. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Transportation Services continues to apply all available manpower and equipment to winter roadway maintenance (snow and ice control) throughout the County’s service areas. The staff is making every effort to address all areas.

Notice February 3, 2021:

The Crew will be working extended hours over the next few days and if need be throughout the weekend to ensure the County roads are safe and passable. With keeping the policy in mind (Snow Removal and Ice Control Policy # PI -30-009) now that the heavy snowfall  has passed the crew has started windrowing and removal of snow from the priority and emergency routes in the hamlets and then will be addressing the business areas and subdivisions for snow removal were required.

During periods of continual snowfall, there may be situations where the main roads will be cleared more frequently before the snow removal equipment can get to adjacent roads and subdivision roads.
