County Peace Officers once again enforcing Public Health Act Orders

Post Date:03/09/2021 3:22 PM
At today’s meeting, Council approved allowing Peace Officers to enforce Public Health Act Orders issued by Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, effective immediately. If you have a COVID-19 related complaint, you can once again contact our Peace Officers by calling our complaint line (780-623-6767).

Here’s a little background for residents. On December 8, 2020, Alberta Justice and the Solicitor General advised Level I Peace Officers that they would be authorized to enforce any Public Health Act Orders. On February 25, 2021, Alberta Justice and the Solicitor General (in consultation with the Chief Medical Officer of Health) decided that Peace Officers would no longer have this ability. However, after identifying a gap, the Director of Law Enforcement and Minister of Justice advised that Peace Officers would once again be allowed to enforce COVID-19 measures, based on each municipality’s willingness.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation, and be sure to continue following all of Alberta Health Services’ COVID-19 restrictions and guidelines.
