Lac La Biche County is located in the scenic Lac La Biche area of northeast Alberta. Secondary Highway 881 between Lac La Biche and Fort McMurray continues to be paved, thereby providing a second major transportation route for industry and tourism For the outdoor adventurist, Lakeland Provincial Park and Lakeland Recreational Area provide everything from serviced campgrounds to a rugged wilderness experience in an area abounding with birds and wildlife. Lac La Biche County contains 152 lakes, and 70% of Alberta’s best white sand beaches, within a 40 minute drive from the Town of Lac La Biche, many of which have campgrounds or cabin facilities for your stay. Sir Winston Churchill Park, located 11 kilometers east of Lac La Biche, is Alberta’s only island park - joined to the mainland by a 2 kilometer causeway. The island offers camping, beaches, walking trails, and is also a birdwatchers delight with over 200 species of birds. The Lac La Biche Mission, established in 1853, is located 11 kilometers northwest from Lac La Biche and is a National Historic Site and Provincial Historic Resource. The Mission is the site of Alberta’s first recorded sawmill, printing press, and commercially grown wheat operation. Restoration to the Mission site is ongoing.
