Let's give our community a wellness check. Be a part of our Social Development Strategy.
From early childhood to the golden years, what is the social experience like in Lac La Biche County? What gaps need to be filled, so we can help unlock all of our community members' potential?
We're inviting residents to participate in surveys and community meetings, so all of us can learn together about emotional and mental wellbeing, and so we can study existing supports and challenges for all age groups. Individuals, families, businesses and social service providers are all encouraged to participate, so the resulting Social Development Strategy brings everyone together with a common vision for our shared future.

More about this project:
What is the project timeline? We expect it will take 12-18 months to complete all necessary research, engage with community partners, and finalize the strategy.
Why is it important for members of the public to be involved? Children, adults and seniors all have different social needs and challenges, and they may all have different ideas about what makes a connected and livable community. We need residents to see themselves as essential parts of the County's social fabric, and to understand that everyone has a role to play in the community's social evolution. It takes a village, as they say.
What are some of the project objectives? The Social Development Strategy will be a 10-year roadmap and resource for local human service organizations, including the County's Family & Community Support Services department, to encourage social wellness and resilience. Broadly speaking, these are some of the project aims:
- Community-based services have a common understanding of what makes healthy, age-appropriate social programming.
- Children and youth are engaged and empowered to achieve their potential.
- The community values and invests in seniors, ensuring ongoing connection and support for older residents to age in place.
- The community values an environment for residents to pursue their definition of good quality of life.
- The community recognizes the wide-ranging impacts of family violence, addictions and mental health issues, and knows how to access existing supports and advocate for additional supports.
- Residents have access to relevant social programming, affordable healthcare services and affordable recreation and leisure activities.
