91 Ave. Concept Plan

Design Charrette Workshop

Lac La Biche County is exploring new development opportunities for the 91 Avenue corridor in the hamlet of Lac La Biche. We want to create an urban development strategy that meets the needs of local residents and business owners. In order to best incorporate the visions and ideas of local stakeholders and the public, the County is hosting a design charrette workshop to develop a site plan.

The site plan needs to address key challenges like traffic congestion, land use optimization, environmental protection and community integration. The design charrette workshop involves multiple interactive and collaborative engagement sessions that will help determine the best use of the private and County-owned lands in the 91 Avenue corridor, and how they can be developed to meet the County's current and future needs.

Project Objectives

The goal is to develop a site plan that will achieve the following in the subject area:

  1. Optimize land use, enhance infrastructure and promote sustainability;
  2. Become a local amenity and a regional destination, enhancing the overall quality of life for residents;
  3. Create a vibrant, accessible and aesthetically pleasing corridor while encouraging economic growth.

What is a design charrette workshop?

The design charrette workshop will build a final concept design for the area over an intensive four-day period. We’ll bring together different groups to discuss their needs and visions for the area. The design team then takes this information, creating a series of site plans that capture everyone’s differing ideas. After four days, the team aims to have a preferred concept design that has the support of those who participated in the workshop.

The process involves stakeholders and the public participating in three engagement sessions during the four days to achieve consensus and validation of the preferred design. For the design charrette workshop to be effective, participants are requested to attend all three sessions on days 1, 3, and 4, and are invited to drop in on day 2.
